Mega Drive é um console de jogos de vídeo da geração de 16 bits da SEGA que concorria diretamente com o Super Nintendo. Conhecido como "Genesis" nos Estados Unidos, o console fez grande sucesso na década de 1990, perdendo espaço após o surgimento e popularização da nova geração de consoles de 32 bits, como o Playstation da Sony.

Dentre os jogos de maior sucesso desse sistema está a série Sonic the Hedgehog, a aventura de um veloz ouriço azul para salvar os animais de seu planeta. O jogo foi criado com o objetivo de rivalizar com o personagem Mario, o mascote da Nintendo, criando assim a SEGA seu próprio mascote e maior símbolo. A velocidade do jogo tinha por objetivo mostrar as vantagens do processador do Mega Drive em relação ao console de 16 bits da Nintendo.

Para relembrar esses jogos foi criado o emulador Gens, originalmente criado para Windows ele hoje possui versão para Linux também. Inclusive há um pacote específico para o Ubuntu que pode ser baixado diretamente do site oficial.

Após baixar o pacote para seu Ubuntu basta rodar o seguinte comando no shell:

sudo dpkg -i gens.deb

Ele cria automaticamente uma entrada para o Gens no meu Aplicativos -> Jogos.
